Richard Martinez, 77, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away unexpectedly on June 12, 2026. Born in Raton, New Mexico on July 3, 1948, Richard was the son of Ramona Rodriguez. He graduated from Raton High School before beginning a remarkable 50 year career with American National Insurance, where he built lasting relationships and earned the deep respect of colleagues and clients alike.
Richard was married to the love of his life, Rose Martinez, who also preceded him in death. Their bond was deep and enduring, and it brings comfort to know they are now reunited in peace. He was also preceded in death by his mother, Ramona Rodriguez, and his brother, Tommy Rodriguez.
He is survived by his children, Jessica Rodriguez (Oliver) of Nevada, and Richard Martinez (Camisa) of California, Martin Mendoza, Gary Mendoza Jr. (Pauline), John Mendoza, and Marlies Mendoza-Keller (Martin) all of Arizona; and his brother, Louie Martinez (Sandra) of Colorado. Richard’s heart stretched wide enough to hold each of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Gavin, Ezra, Esai, Sanaa-Rae, Martin, Andrea, Robert, Thomas, Vanessa, Marissa, Daniel, Jazmine, Dallen, Alexis, Caitlin, Garrett, Natalie, Celeste, Dolly, Destin, Devin, Mila, Lucy, Galilia, Logan, and Oliver.
Richard truly marched to the beat of his own drum. He didn’t care much for rigid traditions, preferring the simple joys of life: good music, great company, and the freedom to enjoy life as he pleased. His absolute happy place was at the racetrack or watching simulcasts, cheering on his favorite horses surrounded by friends, laughter, and the thrill of the race. When he wasn't at the track, he could be found rooting for the Dallas Cowboys or listening to his favorite artist, Elvis Presley.
Though he has crossed his final finish line, Richard’s spirit will live on in every great song, every race day, every Cowboys game, every shared story, and every moment of joy he inspired. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
We love you, Dad.
