Rita Annette Varner, 74, passed away on June 15, 2017. She was born on April 16, 1943 in Richland Center, WI. Rita moved to Phoenix, AZ as a child, but she always kept Richland Center in her heart. She spent her life dedicated to her family and always put others first. She was kind-hearted, thoughtful and giving to all of those she loved. She was the beloved wife of the late Carl Lynn Varner, devoted mother of Chris (Kim) Varner and Shawn (Noelle) Varner; proud grandmother of her four grandchildren: Kelsey (23), Cole (17), Shelby (17) and Sydney (13); also a dear sister to Peggy Coleman of Rimrock, AZ. After Rita and Carl married in 1964, they raised their family in Glendale, AZ where she stayed until moving to Gilbert, AZ in 2012 to be closer to her sons and grandchildren. Funeral services will begin Thursday, June 22 at 9:30 AM preceded by a visitation at 9 AM at Green Acres Mortuary & Cemetery in Scottsdale.

When Rita and Carl got married, I was very young, maybe 7. For me, she was like a fairy princess because she was so beautiful. She was very kind and nice to me, inviting me to spend the night at their new house, and making sure that I had fun every minute! Carl and Rita also took me camping and fishing many times and I had a wonderful experience. Her true character really showed when she agreed to be a co-leader with my mom for my Girl Scout Troop! What an awesome lady! All the girls loved her, especially me! Miss you Aunt Rita! Thank you for all your kindness. See you in the heavens some day and we'll have a good laugh!
Love, Kelli

My thoughts are with my second cousins Chris and Shawn during this difficult time, as well as Aunt Peggy and her family. I'll always remember Aunt Rita with love as I think fondly of family get-togethers and hear stories told by my mom of their childhood as best friends and cousins. Love, Barrie

I'm so sorry to hear of my cousin Rita passing but, from what I've heard about her recent health problems, I know for certain she is feeling a whole lot better now. She was a very dear cousin and I always loved her. She will surely be missed by all who knew her. I LOVE YOU RITA. RIP

Rita has been in my life since I was nine months old. We were together often as little girls and she was my maid of honor in my wedding. As adults we did lots of reminiscing. I'm going to miss my cousin.
