Bob was born on August 10, 1942, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Hymie and Anne Berkovitz. He proudly served in the United States Army and attended the University of Washington with a degree in Meteorology.
He enjoyed a distinguished career with the National Weather Service as a fire weather meteorologist, retiring in 2005 after decades of public service. Throughout his career, he deployed to 26 major wildfires, providing critical weather forecasting to help firefighters safely protect lives, property, and natural resources. Weather was more than his profession—it was his lifelong passion. He was especially captivated by Arizona's monsoon season and delighted in sharing detailed weather forecasts with anyone who asked.
Bob was a devoted member of Temple Emanuel beginning in the 1970s and remained an active part of its community for more than five decades. He treasured the lifelong friendships he built there and was a dedicated member of his chavurah for many years.
He was an avid traveler who loved exploring the world, a dedicated fitness enthusiast who attended workout classes for more than 50 years, and an enthusiastic Sudoku solver. He enjoyed lunches with his ROMEO group, cherished time with his Temple friends, and looked forward to his nightly phone conversations with his longtime partner, Meredith Singer.
Bob was known for his sparkling blue eyes, warm sense of humor, unwavering loyalty, and quiet generosity. He volunteered in his community for many years and donated nearly ten gallons of blood during his lifetime, always believing in giving back and helping others.
Above all, Bob was devoted to his family. He was the kind of father, grandfather, brother, partner, and friend who always showed up. Whether attending swim meets, cheerleading events, recitals, graduations, or other milestones, his family knew they could always count on him. His love was steady, dependable, and unconditional.
Bob is survived by his daughters, Leisah Woldoff (Ron) and Staci Berkovitz; his longtime partner, Meredith Singer; his beloved sister, Sheri; his grandchildren AJ, Tanya, Olivia, Andrew, Zachary, Jadon, and Adam; and his great-grandchildren Grace, Harper, and Amelia, along with many extended family members and cherished friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hymie and Anne Berkovitz.
Those who knew Bob will remember his curiosity, kindness, humor, loyalty, and his remarkable ability to make the people he loved feel supported. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the friendships he nurtured, and the countless lives he touched through his work, his service, and his generosity.
The family will forever think of Bob whenever the Arizona monsoon clouds gather—a fitting reminder of a man who spent his life watching the skies.
Graveside services will be held at Green Acres on July 15, 2026 at 9am. Shiva will be held at the Berkovitz residence the evening of July 15th.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Bob's memory to Temple Emanuel or Hospice of the Valley, two organizations that reflect the faith, community, and compassionate care that meant so much to him and his family.
May his memory forever be a blessing.
