

Robert P. "Jake" Jacobsen, 71, of Chandler, AZ passed away on May 26, 2013. Bob was born in Tulsa, OK in 1942 and lived in Alva, OK until the age of 14. He then moved to Arizona, where he attended Gilbert and Washington High Schools. He was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at ASU and graduated with a degree in Journalism in 1963. He then entered the US Marine Corps as Second Lieutenant, served 18 months in Vietnam (1965-66), and was honorably discharged as Captain in 1973. He followed his passion for sports and worked as a sportswriter at the Arizona Republic, in Public Relations at Phoenix International Raceway, as Sports Information Director at the U of A, and again at the Arizona Republic as Sports Editor and Columnist. After retirement from the Republic, he worked for the ASU Alumni Association. Bob and his wife loved to travel and enjoyed trips all over the world. He is survived by Mary Earline, his wife of 49 years; daughters Teri and Tami; sons-inlaw Bryan and Tom, grandchildren Jacob, Shannon, Kristen, Megan, and Kevin; and brothers John and Tom. A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, May 31st at Green Acres Mortuary, 401 N. Hayden Rd., Scottsdale.
