

Shirley Mae James Martin, 78, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2020, in Scottsdale, Arizona, after a long battle with kidney cancer. Shirley was born on March 27, 1942, in Gorman, Texas, to Georgie and Sidney James. She graduated salutatorian from Hobbs (NM) High School.
Shirley started college at the University of New Mexico where she met and married Ed. Together they had 3 children - James Martin, Dr. Corwin (Cory) Martin, and Michael Martin. After raising 3 children, she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the University of Houston- Clear Lake in Houston, Texas.
Shirley taught 9th grade Algebra at Clear Lake High School for 2 years before moving to Austin and becoming a Realtor for Amelia Bullock Realtors for over 10 years. They moved to Denver, Colorado for 6 years and continued her Real Estate career before retiring and moving to Buda, Texas. Ed and Shirley loved to travel after retirement and traveled to Australia, Canada, Africa, Russia, and Europe. Shirley loved to knit, quilt, sew, fly airplanes, and play mahjong at the Onion Creek Country Club.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Ed; she is survived by her beloved sons (daughters-in-law), James (Pamela), Cory (Julie), and Michael; four cherished grandsons, Brandon, Chase, Sean and Kade; sister Paulette (Daniel) James Keith; numerous other relatives; and a host of friends.
