Stephen was born in Kansas City, Missouri on October 21, 1959, the youngest of 6 children of Joseph Wendell Morgan (08-25-1919) and Winifred Hopps Morgan (09-13-1920). The family moved, first to Colby, Kansas, then to Austin, Minnesota. Steve attended Austin High School. He was active in wrestling and pole vaulting. He delivered newspapers, played the piano, and had a huge collection of science fiction books. He attended college in Minnesota, and graduated with a degree in accounting. He passed his C.P.A. test the first time, but didn't pursue that career. He worked at Arby's, working his way up to manager, and later managed an ice cream shop called "Scoops". For a short time, he married Ann . . . . they lived in Crossville, Tennessee, where he worked as a travel agent, and she had a doll shop.
Steve was afflicted with early-onset dementia when he was only 45 years old. He lived in Cabool, Missouri, under the care of his brother, John, for 9 or 10 years. The last 2 years of his life, he lived with his sisters Ann and Nancy, in Arizona. There he enjoyed long walks with Honey (a dog), Taco Tuesdays, Friday double feature movies at the Senior Center, Sunday church and Sunday School.
His favorite foods were, corn-on-the-cob, cherry pie, tacos, and ice cream cones at McDonald's. He would get excited at the site of the Golden Arches.
He died on May 20, 2018.
His memorial will be family only.
He will have a niche in the Sun Lakes United Methodist Church Memory Garden, where he attended before he died.
