Born in Thuong Thanh, the second oldest of four, he joined the army at age 18 and served his country in the South Vietnamese Army honorably for over 25 years. At age 19, he met his wife, Dinh Tran, and it was love at first sight — they were married within six months on February 28, 1952.
He fled Hanoi in 1954 with Dinh and their first born son, and Vietnam on April 30, 1975. He was reunited with his wife and eight children two years later in the US to begin a new life. Married for over 62 years, they built a new life that now includes in-laws, grandchildren and one great grandson.
“Wandering the sunny streets in Saigon,
I was embraced by a cool breeze
From your silk dress from Ha Dong.
I still love the color and beauty of that dress…”
Dad often recited this poem softly to Mom over his last few months — the words carrying him through the memories of their long life together.
A loving husband, devoted father, and doting grandfather, he will always be remembered and loved.
Services are scheduled for 9:30 AM, Saturday, August 9, 2014, at Green Acres Chapel of Light, 401 N Hayden Rd, Scottsdale, Arizona, 85257.
