Vimala Jain

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Vimala Jain’s passing. After an arduous battle with lung cancer over the past year, Vimala passed peacefully at home in the arms of her son Anil and daughter-in-law Sonia on Thursday, September 5th.

A long-time resident of the Twin Tiers and member of the Indian community, Vimala was a beloved mother, wife, sister, aunty and friend. She moved to Big Flats in 1980 and moved to Chandler, Arizona to live with her son Anil and his family in 2022. Vimala, known as “Vimala Aunty” or “Didi” to so many in our community, lost her husband S. K. Jain to cancer in 2020. She is survived by her son Anil, daughter-in-law Sonia, and grandchildren Ariyal and Armaan. She is also survived by her son Sudeep and daughter Deepika, and their families, including Sharad (son-in-law), Mamta (daughter-in-law), and grandchildren Shailavi, Shloka and Nandini.

Everyone who had the opportunity to meet Vimala universally remembers her infectious smile, her warm personality, her kindness, her faith, her hugs and her kitchen. She loved the Elmira-Corning area where lived for ~43 years, mostly because of the deep and loving bonds of friendship she enjoyed with so many.

While we expect her family and friends will grieve for some time, her family would like everyone to reflect fondly on their memories of Vimala and ask that they share them.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00am PST on Sunday, September 15th at Green Acres Mortuary & Cemetery in Scottsdale, Arizona.. There also will be a Celebration of Life on November 9th in Chandler, Arizona at Vimala’s home.
