October 12, 1940 – May 21, 2025
Vinnie Elizabeth Hanna passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, following a courageous battle with cancer and chronic lung illness. She was 84.
Born in Tallahassee, Florida, Vinnie’s early life was marked by profound loss and resilience. Orphaned young and raised in foster care, she found strength in adversity and warmth in the home of Art and Mimnet Mahalko, who nurtured her through her formative years.
An adventurer at heart, Vinnie’s journey led her from Florida to Massachusetts and finally Arizona, where she built a life rich in friendship, hard work, and quiet joy. It was in Tempe that she met her beloved husband, Robert Hanna, a Tempe Police Sergeant. Married in 1971, their
union was one of deep companionship and shared devotion to their treasured Chihuahuas.
Vinnie’s professional path included hard work at local eateries and later, a successful career at Honeywell, where she was twice named Manager of the Year. Her leadership, kindness, and loyalty earned her the admiration of colleagues and friends alike.
Though she and Bob never had children, their chosen family was wide and deeply cherished. Vinnie was “Auntie Vinnie,” “Grandma,” and “Granny” to many. Her presence was a source of warmth, laughter, and steadfast love.
She is survived by her niece Margie Griess, her nephew Frankie Rangel, and numerous great nieces and nephews. She held a special place of love for many she thought of as her “grandchildren” including Stephanie (Damon) Corkern, James Montanez, Jessica Fikejs, Kristina
Montanez, Craig Montanez and Kaliyah Montanez-Woods, and Kiari Montanez-Woods.
Vinnie will be remembered for her resilience, kindness, and the quiet strength that defined her life. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
