He is now with his Lord and Savior, embracing his wife and those friends and family who have passed before him.
Walter was born in South Sioux City, Nebraska and proudly served his country for four years in the United States Air Force, including two years stationed in Germany. On August 15, 1959, Walter married the love of his life, Vivian Aline Dodgion, in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple moved to Mesa, Arizona, in June of 1961, where they built a beautiful life and a legacy of love.
Walter enjoyed a fulfilling career in the aerospace industry, working at Garrett AiResearch Manufacturing Division, where he performed vital inspection and testing for the airline industry. Following years of dedicated service, he retired from Honeywell in 1990.
Retirement began a new chapter of service for Walter, who remained deeply committed to supporting his community. He volunteered at Banner Baywood Hospital for 16 years. He was also proud to graduate from the City of Mesa Citizen Police Academy and serve as an active member of the Mesa Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association (MCPAAA), working alongside local law enforcement as a goodwill ambassador.
A man of deep convictions, Walter was special to all who knew him and will be remembered for his steadfast faith in the Lord. He was fiercely devoted to his church and his church family at Mesa Baptist Church, where he also loved taking the mound as the pitcher for the church softball team.
Beyond his professional and volunteer life, Walter was truly passionate about staying active and being around the people he loved. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, bowling, and catching up over coffee with his buddies. He was always up for a game of bocce ball or cribbage, and he loved watching football and rooting loudly for his favorite team, the Kansas City Chiefs.
Above all, Walter loved time with his family. He was happiest when hiking with his kids when they were younger and exploring the Arizona trails. Later in life he enjoyed just having a meal at his favorite spot, Freddy's Hamburgers. He very much enjoyed being around family and friends.
Walter was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vivian Lieber. Parents Otto and Harriet Lieber, Brother’s Otto Jr., Arnold, Darrell and sister’s Dorothy Huddle and Helen Levine.
He is survived by his devoted children, Mark Lieber (Judi) and Joyanna Band (Mark); his granddaughter, Cailin Swearingen (William) his precious great-grandchildren, Lucy and Riley; and his brother, Raymond.
