William (Bill) Wetherby died Saturday, November 12th after a brief illness at the age of 89. Affectionately known as Goofy to his family and friends, he was truly one of a kind. His unique life took him through many different experiences. He lived on a houseboat on the log booms in Washington, as well as on a farm. He was adventurous and a bit of a daredevil. He met the love of his life, Clara, in high school and they married the year after graduation. They were married for nearly 60 years before Clara passed away in 2011. He was a pharmacist for almost 50 years in Washington and Arizona. He was dedicated to his staff and customers and was highly regarded by all.
Our parents had four children in quick succession. Our lives were hectic and full of activities. In 1970 he moved the family to Arizona. This was the best decision he ever made. Dad and Mom became avid golfers and it was an integral part of their lives right up until the end.
He was an amazing storyteller and was always quick with a joke or anecdote. He was proud of his family and loved all of us and showed it in many ways. His philosophy on life was to be honest, fair and kind – and he lived that way every day. He took every curve-ball life threw his way in stride. He was thrilled to have gotten to enjoy not only his 10 grandchildren, but his 6 great grandchildren as well. The void he leaves behind cannot be filled and he will be missed deeply by all who knew him.
