William Walker Wood
December 7, 1922 – October 11, 2020
William Walker Wood was born Dec. 7, 1922 in Syracuse, New York. He passed away at the age of 97 on Oct. 11, 2020. Affectionately known as Bill, he moved to Phoenix, Arizona and graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1941. Bill served in World War II in the Army Aircorp and then six years as a flight engineer at Williams Airforce Base in Chandler, Arizona. He married Martha Fields in 1947 and they were married for 73 years. Bill worked for Motorola as an engineer and served as vice chair of the Credit Union board and then became board president from 1965-1967. He also served as a volunteer reporter for the Voice of Motorola newspaper. He then went to work for the Credit Union for 17 years managing facilities and insurance. He co-designed the home office building in Scottsdale. While working at Motorola he attended and graduated from Phoenix College in 1967. He retired in 1991 after 37 years with the company. Bill was an avid golfer and many trophies lined his bookshelves. His favorite pastime was going on cruises with his wife. His favorite cruise was through the Panama Canal. He and Marty loved ballroom dancing, especially the jitterbug. Bill assisted his wife Marty with her Shaklee business and they were awarded cars and travel from the company. Survivors include his wife Marty Wood, his daughter Darlene Wood, his daughter Donna Buckles, his son-in-law Mike Buckles. He was predeceased by his son William. Bill has 8 grandchildren and 19 great grand children.
