Alberta was born in Seattle, Washington to Albert H. Soeneke and Hulda Marie Soeneke. Alberta had two older brothers, Bill and Jack, and one older sister, Lila May. The family resided in the Phinney Ridge neighborhood and later Magnolia. Alberta graduated from Lincoln High School in Seattle and attended Mills College in Oakland, California where she was awarded a Phi Beta Kappa key. In July of 1945 she married Lieutenant Hubert P. Prather who was about to be deployed to the South Pacific as a US Naval pilot on a carrier. They moved temporarily to San Diego to await his departure. Luckily WWII ended before he was sent overseas. Hubert opted to remain in the Navy as a career officer and so Alberta’s life thereafter was that of a Navy wife, filled with many relocations. In 1946 she gave birth to their only child, Christine Joy. In 1963 Commander Prather retired from the military and the family settled in Fullerton, California where Hubert pursued a second career in the defense industry and later real estate. Alberta was an active member of the Symphony Guild, the Assistance League and the League of Women Voters. In 1984 Hubert retired a second time and he and Alberta moved home to Seattle. Alberta is pre-deceased by her three siblings and husband. She is survived by her daughter, Christine and her husband Dan Jordan and numerous nieces and nephews.
