Alice was the beloved daughter of the late James R. And Bessie Lee Coe, both pioneers of the Yakima Valley. She was born at home on September 8, 1925. She attended the Yakima Public Schools and later went on to receive an MSW degree from the School of Social Work, University of Washington in 1959. In her Senior year of college she met Edwin R. Hardman, who was originally from Roslyn, and it was love at first sight. They were married in 1949 and enjoyed 65 years of marriage until Ed’s death in 2014. Alice and Ed enjoyed family life, raising two children, Rita Lorraine and James Richard, then greeting five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren into their lives. Alice balanced a career as homemaker, mother, social worker and certified professional guardian. She was a children’s worker (for the state), adult education instructor ( for Seattle Public Schools), and Harborview Hospital Extension Service Social worker. Later she had a private practice and then began specializing in work with mentally challenged/ developmentally disabled persons (State of Washington). Alice had a love of learning and had a number of interests in addition to homemaking, her work and quilting. She had a pilot’s license and enjoyed piloting her small Cessna for about 15 years. She had a long productive life and will be greatly missed by all of those who loved her. Dearly treasured survivors include her son-in-law John Pinkley (Marilyn), her daughter -in- law Laura Hardman, five grandchildren Richard Pinkley (Janet), Robert Pinkley, Doug Pinkley, Christina Butler (Eric) and Beth Johnson (Matt). Her ten great grandchildren include Lydia, Nina, Alexandra, Garrison, Samantha, Nicole, Savannah, Philip, Caleb and Rachel.

Dear Family and Friends of Alice,

I'll never forget Alice's sweet smile and kindness to me when I worked for Action DD on a Task Force in Olympia. Her presence was a gift. May you find comfort in the fact she has joined some of her family in heaven.
Blessings,

I met Alice when I volunteered to be a friend to a resident at Fircrest School around 1983 through the "Heart-to-Heart" program. I received good training in how to be a friend, and after I was assigned to be Sandy's friend, I learned a lot about those with mental and physical disabilities. Alice helped me in many ways, and I loved her sweet attitude and helpfulness. When my husband died, and I got called to go back to Japan as a missionary, I had to break from being Sandy's guardian. Alice was a special friend and a blessing to many people, as she was to me.
