Ann LaGrelius Siqueland
November 1, 1940 – December 1, 2018
Ann passed away peacefully at the age of 78 on December 1, 2018. Born on Nov 1, 1940 to Abbott "Si" Whitman LaGrelius and Marion Crawford LaGrelius. Sharing a birthday with her father; Abbott frequently remarked that she was the "best birthday present he ever received." Ann is preceded in death by her husband Paul Albert Siqueland, and is survived by her brother Thomas W. LaGrelius (of Redondo Beach, CA), her children, Nadine Siqueland (Partner, Todd), Bruce Siqueland (spouse, Tani), & Michelle Siqueland Carrasco (spouse, Jere), (all of Seattle) and her grandchildren, Natelie Carrasco, Jordan Carrasco & Harriet Siqueland (all of Seattle).
Ann grew up in the Phinney Ridge neighborhood of Seattle, graduating from Lincoln high school. She met the love of her life, and husband to be Paul Siqueland in Luther League at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church. They would both attend Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma and then Western Washington University where Ann received a degree in English. Ann and Paul were married in 1961 and while raising their children Ann became a devoted advocate to concerns of equality and social justice within the Lutheran church, public schools and the greater society. She played a pivotal role in the desegregation of Seattle Public School while employed with The Church Counsel of Greater Seattle and authored a book on the subject. After Ann was widowed at the young age of 39, she obtained a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Washington and a Masters in Divinity from Luther Seminary in Saint Paul, MN. She continued her work in the church and community. In one of her last works of service up to the age of 75, she was an adult crossing guard assisting children on the same corner near Bryant elementary where her own children had once crossed on their way to school. Ann cherished her work in South Africa; her beloved dog Ling Ling; her vegetable garden & chickens; knitting sweaters for her family and spending time with her grandchildren. Her greatest love was a God of unlimited and overflowing Grace which she experienced within her Lutheran Faith.
