Antoinette Bassett was born on the DeLeo Homestead farm in Coalfield, Washington, on November 5, 1917. She was the middle child of 13 siblings (3 sons and 10 daughters) of John Joseph DeLeo and Mary Louisa Dandrea DeLeo. Antoinette and her siblings worked like a crew of dairy farmers: haying, milking cows and tending a garden plot and a small flock of chickens. Her mother insisted that the children attend school, and thus Antoinette and siblings walked over a mile to Coalfield Grade School. She graduated from 8th grade in 1932 and from Renton High School in 1937.
Antoinette met and married Leno Bassett from Renton, Washington in 1939. They lived in Lake Forest Park, Washington, for 39 years and then moved to Cottage Lake in Woodinville. Leno and Antoinette were married for 73 years, and had two children Leno Roger and Leanette Joy. Antoinette assisted Leno Bassett in a very successful landscape supply business in Woodinville for over 40 years. She always considered herself just a homemaker, but her interests were many. She collected recipes for years and became an accomplished cook especially in Italian dishes, all made from scratch. Antoinette took classes in cake decorating, fibers, and pottery making. Her many skills were passed on to her children and grandchildren. The natural world of wild flowers, herbs and weeds has always been central to her wellbeing. Crows and hummingbirds have been her particular favorites. She credits natural remedies for her obtaining over 100 years.
Antoinette’s husband Leno died in 2012 and Antoinette died on Saturday, April 21, 2018. She will be interred at Cedar Lawns Cemetery in Redmond Washington, on April 29, 2018. Antoinette is survived by two sisters, Margaret Woods and Miki Lapsansky; son, Leno Roger Bassett and daughter, Leanette Joy Bassetti; grandchildren, Tony Bassetti (Julie), Lisa O’Neil (Shaun), Michelle Wright, Teresa Wittenborn (Shawn), Nikki Nicholson (Bob); great grandchildren, Avril O’Neil, Euan O’Neil, Josh Bassetti, Ashton Bassetti, Kenny Beadle (Desiree), Anthony Wittenborn, Gavin Wittenborn, Markus Nicholson, Makenzi Wright, Kennedi Wright, and Austin Wright; great ,great grandchildren, Miles Beadle, Chance Beadle, Rowan Beadle, and Tristan Beadle.
