He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 45 years, Emmie Lou Towne (in 2001), and brother, Robert S. Towne. Arthur was the loving and faithful caregiver to Emmie Lou during her five year cancer battle.
Born in Winslow, Washington, October 20, 1926 to Myra and Arthur H. Towne, Sr. Upon early graduation from Auburn High School, Art joined the Army Transport Service. He served on a small Army ship transporting military supplies and personnel along the Aleutian Islands chain. Entering the University of Washington in 1946, Art completed his freshman year. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in occupied Germany. In 1948, he returned to the UW to finish his studies and graduate with a B.A. in business. He was an active member of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity where he made many lifelong friends. In 1956, he married the love of his life, Emmie Lou Fairservice, after being introduced on a blind date.
Art’s entire career was in the insurance industry. He achieved the insurance professional designation, CPCU. After 25 years with United Pacific/Reliance, he retired as Senior Vice President in 1987. Art enjoyed helping others develop and succeed, both professionally and personally.
Art always gave his time and talent to others, volunteering, helping, and serving. He was a friend and mentor to many. He was a member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Federal Way. His faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of his life.
In addition to his family, Art loved travel, family vacations, good food and wine, and time spent at his second home on Treasure Island on Case Inlet. He remained a proud Husky sports fan. A lifelong learner, Art was a student of history and the Bible. He enjoyed old movies and Broadway musicals.
Art is survived by his children, Julie Klouse of Federal Way, Diane Towne of Peoria, Arizona, his brother, David Towne, Sr. (Chris) of Seattle, son-in-law, Jim Klouse, granddaughter, Sonia Klouse of Hastings, Nebraska, and many extended family members and friends. Sonia was a constant source of joy and pride in his life; - she will always be “Papa’s girl.”
The family would like to thank the staff at GenCare Lifestyle at Steel Lake for the wonderful care. They
became Art’s second family.
