Barry Bruce Schmidt

Barry Schmidt, age 75, of Ephrata, WA and formerly from Mansfield, WA passed away September 29, 2026. He was raised on a wheat farm and graduated from Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA. Following graduation, he married his college sweetheart, Shirlee, and they made their home in Ephrata raising two daughters, Victoria and Crystal.

Barry was employed by Grant County PUD for 34 years. In 1981, he earned his Washington State Professional Engineer License and began his engineering career at Wanapum Dam and continued advancing as the Transmission and Substation Chief Engineer in Ephrata.

Some of his favorite pastimes were trolling for trout on local lakes nearly every summer weekend and getting out to the family farm for opening day of buck season.

He always enjoyed sharing those times with his dad and close friends. Barry harvested 34 deer on the family farm, beginning when he was only 12 years old. He returned to the farm for every wheat harvest, helping his dad, using his vacation time to drive a green combine.

Barry was preceded in death by his wife, Shirlee; parents Pat and Dorothy; and sister Linda. He is survived by his daughters Victoria (Sam), Crystal (Brian) and grandson Noah.

At his request, no funeral service will be held.
