The best memory I remember of my uncle was when he visited Spokane about ten years ago. He sat down with me and we talked. He told me how he was proud of us for the people we have grown up to be, for our abilities and responsibilities we showed, taking care of our mom and making sure she is well, our characters of strength and determination that show we will and are capable to do many things that life throws at us. That made me very happy that he acknowledged that about us. We will always love him and he will always have a special place in our heart. We love you.

My brother, Bouathong Phothivongsa,

Is someone I will always keep so close to my heart . He was a person who would bring out the best in people, he was selfless, and honorable.

When we were children, Bouathong was always like a father figure to me. He always took care of me, making sure I became the person that we both desired to be. He helped and encourage me to start learning to read and write in Laos, he always wanted the best for me. My brother was always thinking of me. Whenever he would return home he would always bring back a souvenir for me, a special gift that showed me that I was someone who is important to him.

Bouathong was a man who loved his family, family was his number one priority and he always made sure of that.

My brother was someone I will always look up to. I will always love him and cherish all the memories we shared and created together, for without him I wouldn’t have become the person I am today. I’ll always commemorate his memory and what he made of himself and the person he became, through strength and guidance he was the person I knew I could always count on. I love you Bouathong.

Love your sister,
Foythong Phothivongsa

I loved my Grandfather very much. I know he was proud of me and loved me. Being a General made him a very important person in Laos, but he was the most important person to me. He was my Grandfather, who I admired so much. I will always remember the times I had with him. He made me feel loved.

I Love You Pou,

My Grandfather always made me feel special. Every time when he smiled he made me smile. Not everyone can say that their Grandfather was a General, but I could. I was blessed to have him in my life for 12 years. Pou, you were an amazing Grandfather. I will love you and miss you always.

Thank you, Dad, for being the most incredible father I could have ever asked for. You have given me so many wonderful memories that I will always cherish in my heart. You always made sure that I felt loved. You taught me so much and I hope I can carry on those values and wisdom to your grandsons, Gerik and Logan.

You helped me become the person I am today. A loving wife and mother. You said you were lucky to have us. The truth is we are the lucky ones to have you as our Dad. You will never be forgotten and your grandchildren will always be reminded of the extraordinary man you were.

I love you Dad.

Uncle Bouathong and I shared many positive memories together. When I was a young child, he was always very eager to bond with me and would want me to spend time with him. He would give me advice and we sometimes would watch television together. He was always curious about my growth and I believe hoped that I would grow to be a good man.

Learning more about him now and his military background just makes me admire him more and to see all people from all walks of life attend his funeral to see him one last time is amazing. He was a man of character and a family man. His children are a reflection of his values and he did his best to protect and raise them along with being a great husband to his wife, my Aunt.

Rest in peace, Loung Bouathong. You will be missed and loved always.

Best wishes,

Bouathong was a remarkable man, a highly respected Soldier, a loving Husband, and a devoted Father and Grandfather. He lived an extraordinary and accomplished life. As a General, his leadership and accomplishments were noted in history books. As a Father, he was the patriarch of the family. But being a Grandfather was the one accomplishment that meant the most to him.

Bouathong, your life and your legacy will forever be remembered. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of it, and a part of your wonderful family. I will love you and miss you always.
