Cecilia Thomas, 68, of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico, passed away July 5, 2013. She was born in Los Angeles, California, on January 25, 1945. Her two marriages resulted in two sons, the most important men in her life. Cecilia began her career with the United States Customs and Border Protection in the 1980s as an Inspector in Seattle, where she proudly served her coworkers as Treasurer and shop steward for the National Treasury Employees Union. Cecilia spent the final five years of her Customs career in Washington, D.C., as a Country Manager for the high-profile Container Security Initiative, where she traveled extensively to ports throughout the world. In 2008 she retired and moved to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where she quickly became a part of the local community, enjoying a full life of travel, volunteering at the town library, and playing poker every Thursday afternoon with her friends. Cecilia utilized her bilingual skills by volunteering and serving on the board of Jovenes Adelante, an organization that helps underserved children gain access to higher education. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, James and Julie Thomas of Otter Rock, Oregon, and Maikael and Elizabeth Thomas of Albuquerque, New Mexico; her grandchildren, Santiago and Kristopher Vallin, and Abra Thomas; and her great-granddaughter, Janessa Vallin. A funeral mass in her honor will be held on July 16 at 1 p.m. at the chapel at Providence Mount St. Vincent, 4831 35th Ave SW, Seattle, with a reception following.
