

Charles Arthur Hoppe was born in Juneau, Alaska on July 19, 1925 to Margaret and Charles Hoppe. They moved to Seattle and settled at Alki in West Seattle. He and his brothers enjoyed living close to the beach and formed childhood friendships that are still intact. Charlie graduated from West Seattle High School in 1943. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps during World War II. Afterwards he graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed by the Boeing Company where he met and later married Micheala Tierney. They settled in West Seattle and raised three fine sons, Michael, Brian and Alan. Charlie and Micheala bought a cabin on Hood Canal where they enjoyed many years with family and friends. Charlie was a loving husband, devoted father and will be greatly missed. He retired from Boeing after 40 years and enjoyed reading, walking, gardening, woodworking and good times at their cabin. They traveled with Friendship Force International to many countries and hosted foreign visitors in their home for years. Charlie was preceded in death by his brother Donald Reese, sisters-in-law Marge Reese and Winona Hoppe, niece Vanessa Morris, and son Michael Hoppe. He is survived by his loving wife Micheala, sons Brian and Alan, brother Douglas Hoppe, sister-in-law Petra Tierney, daughter-in-law Carolyn Hoppe and grandsons Joseph and Daniel Hoppe. A memorial service will be held at Tibbetts United Methodist Church, 3940 41st Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98116 at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 12, 2014. A committal service will be held at the Tahoma National Cemetery at a later date.
