Cynthia Anne Fye, a longtime Seattle resident, passed away at Swedish Medical Center, where she worked for over 25 years, on April 13, 2013. She was born on May 4, 1939 to Lawrence Eugene and Mary Martha (Tipton) Fye in Dubois, PA., the first of four children.
She was a member of the first graduating class of Rim of the World High School in Lake Arrowhead, California where she co-authored the high school’s alma mater and was one of the first women to letter in sports. She went on to Riverside College where she studied Orthopedics, Operating Room Nursing and Ophthalmology. She became a registered RN in 1967. After her time serving as an Army Nurse she eventually settled in Seattle, volunteering to help with injured veterans and working at Swedish Hospital.
Cynthia’s Christian faith became a prime motivator in her life as she enlarged her circle of service through the years. She loved to serve, and she served people in many walks of life in deep and profound ways. She was the kind of no nonsense friend you could always count on.
Although she never had children of her own, she was an “adopted grandmother” to many who loved her. She took them fishing, birding, to Native American pow-wows and trips to the ocean for countless adventures along with her good friend Mimi. The sweaters she knit kept them warm on the coldest of adventures when they were little. If the little ones were lucky, they might have joined Cynthia in her clown costume in one of Seattle’s Seafair Parades.
Cynthia was also a sports nut, informing any who were interested in the latest scores of any of her favorite teams. She was an armchair cheerleader for all of her friends that played or coached as professionals or for the love of the game. She also loved the work and people of Taproot Theatre Company where she was a long-time subscriber and gave her time as a valued volunteer.
All of us who love her have stories to tell of how she impacted our lives. Hopefully her guest book will tell some of those stories over time.
Cynthia’s hearty laugh and loving heart will be greatly missed. For those privileged to know her, she taught us a great deal about unconditional love in the way she lived her life.
Cynthia leaves behind many loving extended family members and friends.
A Graveside service will be held at 12PM on Monday, April 22, 2013 at Acacia Memorial Park, Seattle, WA.
