

Born in Des Moines, Iowa to Oscar and Doris Swanson on August 3, l929 passed away July 5, 2017
Dale graduated from North High in Des Moines and Iowa State University with a degree in
Mechanical Engineering. While at Iowa State University he played saxophone for dances to pay his way through school.
He earned a Master’s Degree from U.C.L.A. in l955.
Dale was employed by the Northrop Corporation in Los Angeles and in l955moved to Seattle where he worked for the Boeing Co. as a Propulsion Engineer for 39 years.
In l957 he was married to his beloved wife, Arlene, whom he met singing in the choir at the University Methodist Temple Choir.
Dale attended over 50 years of youth sports games where his son Greg was either a player or a coach and he had incredible patience as a math tutor.
He was a proficient jazz pianist and loved entertaining family and friends with jazz riffs on Christmas Carols.
He was an avid fan of the Seattle Mariners and the Seahawks and a strong supporter of the Seattle Opera, Seattle Symphony and many charitable organizations. Dale was a member of the Museum of Flight and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
A longtime member of University Temple United Methodist Church, Dale served on numerous committees over the years.
Dale is survived by his wife of 59 years Arlene, son Greg, daughter-in-law, Gretchen and granddaughter, Reland of Seattle as well as several nieces and
nephews in the midwest.
A Memorial Service will be held at University United Methodist Temple at l4l5 NE 43rd St.
on Thursday, July 20th at 3:00 p.m. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.
Suggested remembrances may be made to the Organ Restoration Fund at University United
Methodist Church or The Union Gospel Mission.
