Born on July 21, 1939, in San Quintin, Pangasinan, Philippines, Danny was a quiet and hardworking man who lived a life defined by service, loyalty, and dedication to his family. He proudly joined the United States Coast Guard on August 3, 1962. In January 1963, he reported aboard the USCGC Castle Rock (WAVP 383) in Boston, Massachusetts, serving as a Steward. On January 16, 1965, he married the love of his life, Alberta Abulencia, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Fort Erie, Ontario, Canada. He attended ET “A” School and Loran “C” School from June to December 1969. He was redesignated as an Electronics Technician — a significant achievement at a time when Filipinos were often restricted to steward roles until they became naturalized citizens. He went on to serve as a Loran “C” Technician (and later Supervisor) in Okinawa, Japan (1971–1972) and St. Paul, Alaska (1980–1981). He retired on October 1, 1982, as a Chief Electronics Technician after additional assignments at Coast Guard Base San Francisco (1971–1974), USCGC Munro (WHEC 724) (1974–1977), and US Coast Guard Group Seattle, WA (1977–1982). His 20 years of honorable service reflected his strong work ethic, technical skill, and commitment to duty.
Following his retirement from the Coast Guard, Danny worked as an electrician at Lockheed Shipyard, where he helped build the USS Whidbey Island (LSD 41), USS Germantown (LSD 42), and USS Fort McHenry (LSD 43). He later worked at Boeing until his second retirement.
Danny was a devoted husband to Alberta for over 61 years. Together they raised two children and built a life centered on family. He was a loving father and grandfather who especially enjoyed spoiling his grandchildren in his later years and taking care of their two dogs, Fluffy and Lovejoy. Known for his quiet strength and loyalty, he was an active and cherished member of the Filipino Community of Seattle, where he generously volunteered much of his time.
He is survived by his loving wife, Alberta; his daughter Liza and her husband Jamie Boswell, and their daughters Maya and Mari Boswell; his son Albert and his wife Gloria Perpuse, and their children Kurt and Brielle Perpuse; and many extended family members and friends in the United States and the Philippines.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Danny’s memory be made to the Filipino Community of Seattle: https://www.filcommsea.org/donate
