Though everyone called her Denise, most didn't know her middle name, Joy, really defined her. She was born in Seattle, Washington on August 12, 1954. Truly the baby of the family, she was doted
on by her brother and two sisters, who were 6, 11 and 12 years older than she.
She was the joy of the house, always laughing and giggling, filled with life. Her older siblings took her with them often, so she had an introduction to life's interesting adventures at a very early age. They lived on a farm in Alderwood Manor, Washington, and picked blackberries, raspberries, explored the 5 acres of woods, picked flowers, and built camps in the peat bogs. They had a cow named T-Bone and chickens. They rode bicycles and horses. She wanted her own horse and got Rifty. This brown and white gentle beast took her heart. She spent hours and days with him, and she loved to ride.
Her mother Claire died when Denise was only 16. Upon her mother's death, she decided to finish high school in Seattle, then moved around the country and lived with family. She eventually settled in Atlanta, Georgia, where she met, fell in love with and married her first true love. They married and had their first child, then moved to Arizona where they had four more children. After many years of being a homemaker, she entered the workforce and loved working with people.
She was diagnosed with a rare and incurable brain disease called Progressive Supranuclear Palsy in 2016, but starting showing symptoms 3 years prior. This debilitating disease took over and she passed June 12, 2018 with her family nearby.
She is survived by her children, daughters Christi Des Jarlais (Adam), Teresa Donaldson (Tom), and sons Donald, Daniel and Greg Bockmann. She is also survived by her siblings, Kim Midanik (Bill), Lynn Cooper (Wayne), and Jeff Brewbaker (Diane) and three grandchildren, Christian and Alexis Des Jarlais and Elena Donaldson.
We will miss her contagious smile and remember the everlasting love she gave to us.
There will be a Graveside Service for Denise at Acacia Memorial Park & Funeral Home - 14951 Bothell Way NE - Seattle, WA 98155 on Monday, Aug. 6th at 10:00 AM.
