Dorr Marshall Anderson VI arrived in the world on May 7, 2020, the firstborn son of Dorr and Brittany. From the beginning, they loved him with everything they had. The new little family arrived home from the hospital a few days later, on Mother’s Day, to the cheers of extended family gathered outside. From then on, they were no longer just themselves—they were his.
Dorr is the big brother to James and Levi. He is a beloved grandson, great-grandson, nephew, great-nephew, and friend. Dorr is cousin to Quinn, Adaline, and Arie.
Dorr entered the world in the early, uncertain days of a global pandemic, with the diagnosis of an incurable genetic condition, Tuberous Sclerosis Complex (TSC). From his birth, Dorr embarked on a complex maze of medical intervention. As his parents embraced this new community, so did he. At an incredibly young age, cooperation with medical professionals became second nature. He was easy going, a fantastic patient, and content with simplicity.
Dorr filled his home with curiosity, giggles, and requests for music and reading time. He brought laughter, snuggles, love, and humor to his home. He brought warmth wherever he went, and never held back. He was unabashedly himself.
His smile could lift any mood and the twinkle in his eye said, “I see you.”
His beautiful life included being part of play groups, school groups, church communities, the TSC community, and communities of family and friends. These communities stretched across the country and around the world. Dorr was welcomed into and flourished in all of them. His parents led the way in this, walking with him in joys and challenges and always believing the best.
Dorr loved his year at preschool, which he started in the spring of 2024. It gave him a wonderful introduction to the world he was so curious about: nature, animals, the alphabet, building things, and figuring out how contraptions worked. He rode the school bus and made connections with teachers and friends.
There was a very special place in Dorr’s heart for his best friend and younger brother, James, and his baby brother Levi. He loved to laugh and be silly with them, calling them by name: Jamesie and yiddle Yevi.
James and Levi, all of us commit to forever telling the stories of your brother, Dorr, so that you’ll remember him for all of our days.
Dorr brought to his family and the world a beauty that cannot be captured with words because he was completely authentic. He filled every moment of his five short years with life and color and joy. He gave and received more love than many people do in their entire lifetimes. We miss him and can’t believe he’s not here with us. We will never be the same.
