Evelyn Ellen Fisher-Parker passed away, peacefully, November 10, 2023, at the age of 94. She is survived by her children; John Parker (Laurel), Dale Stoeppler (Jan), and Sally Parker; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
As a child, Eve excelled at school, and, in 1948, enrolled in pre-med at Washington State College. There, she was selected as a Harvest Ball Princess and met her future husband, Richard A Parker, who was a captain of the Cougar football team. They married in 1950, and moved to his home, in San Francisco, where he was employed in the family business.
By 1956, she was a single mom, with three children five years old and under. She moved back to her beloved Seattle to be with family.
Evelyn worked as a medical assistant until 1960, when she arrived home from work, during Seattle’s infamous Columbus Day windstorm, to find her young children, on the dock of her Lake Washington home, using their coats as sails against the wind, as waves were washing over the dock!
She quickly sold her home and purchased a less expensive one in Laurelhurst. She used the difference to finance an educational four year UW degree, which she accomplished in three years. She spent the rest of her career as a sixth grade teacher, at Sunny Hills Elementary, in Issaquah, until her retirement, at age 65.
Eve loved to ski and taught her children to love it, also. As a retiree, she enjoyed crewing on large sailboats throughout Puget Sound. She loved the ferries and local beaches, where she and her mother, our Nana, spent many wonderful afternoons.
Mom lived a full life. A life devoted to giving to, not taking from society, as thirty years worth of students can attest to. After teaching, her giving continued, as evidenced by her volunteerism and tutoring. Eve also became an accomplished artist; winning numerous awards and even making the cover of a local art magazine. She worked in all mediums, but excelled with her drawings and her landscapes and portraits in oils.
Evelyn will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Mom’s shining light is now brightening the heavens.
