Fown-Tzu Tsai

Fown-Tzu Tsai, a pioneering nurse, educator, and the matriarch of her family, left behind a legacy of resilience and excellence. Born in January, 1934 in southern Taiwan, Fown-Tzu moved through the world with a rare combination of grit, generosity and warmth.

Fown-Tzu trained in nursing and medical nutrition, and rose to a faculty member and administrator at the School of Nursing, Kaohsiung Medical University in Taiwan. Over her long career, she mentored generations of nurses, instilling in them her signature standard of nursing care. Her commitment to healthcare extended into her later years through the JH Tsai Health Care & Culture Foundation. Established in memory of her beloved husband who passed away in 2015, the foundation became her vehicle for improving outcomes in diabetes and chronic kidney disease, and for advancing literacy of healthcare in chronic diseases.

To those who knew her best, Fown-Tzu was the "ultimate improver." Her famous phrase, "it can be done better” encouraged us to reach for our highest potential—a philosophy she applied to both her professional work and her family life. She was also known for her quick wit and a sense of humor that could light up a room.

She was the devoted mother of daughters Elaine and Pei-San, the proud grandmother of Galen and Alexandria, and is survived by her sons-in-law, Peter and Leif; younger sister, Yang-Tzu and brother-in-law, Chao-Hsiung; and many nieces and nephews. Fown-Tzu faced every adversity with a refusal to back down, leaving her family with a roadmap of how to live a life of purpose, excellence, and love.

She passed away peacefully at home in Seattle on January 7, 2026, surrounded by close family members.

張峯紫 (1934–2026)

張峯紫是一位護士先驅、教育家和家族的家長，同時也是堅韌不拔和卓越奉獻的典範。峯紫於1934年1月出生於台灣南部。 在接受過護理和醫學營養的專業訓練後，她任職於台灣高雄醫學大學護理學的教職和行政。在她漫長的職業生涯中，她指導了數代的護士，並灌輸她們對護理專業標準執行的觀念。她對醫療保健的奉獻精神延續到她晚年並透過JH Tsai 基金會而得以延續。該基金會是為了紀念她摯愛的丈夫（於2015年去世）而設立的，其宗旨在改善糖尿病和慢性腎臟病的治療成果，並提高大眾在疾病醫療上的知識和素養。

在最了解她的人眼中，峯紫是一位「精益求精的典範」。她那句名言「可以做得更好」激勵著我們追求卓越——她將這理念貫穿於她的職業生涯和家庭生活中。她以機智幽默著稱，總讓她身側的人充滿活力。

她是女兒青珊和佩珊的慈母，也是孫女雅嵐和雅淇親愛的外婆。她的女兒和孫女們, 女婿邑平和立夫，妹妹洋紫和妹夫昭雄，以及許多侄甥子女將永遠懷念峯紫面對逆境的果敢和她為家人樹立的,充滿愛的人生榜樣。
