Francis Valentine Janasz died on November 14th in Woodinville after a long struggle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Everyone knew him as Frank, and no one had a bad word to say about him. Born in Leavenworth, KS, on November 19, 1923 to Bartholomew Joseph Janasz and Anna Janasz (nee Blecharzyk), he was orphaned at 16, the fourth oldest of ten. Frank graduated from Immaculata High School and joined the Army Air Corp. He fought in WWII as a belly and tail gunner based in England, flying missions over Germany. He attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. After the war, Frank became a heavy equipment operator, joining the International Union of Operating Engineers in 1947 and proceeding to work on pipeline construction projects across most of the continental U.S., parts of Canada, and on the Alaska Pipeline. For many years, he worked for Mid-Mountain Contractors of Bellevue. In 1951, he married Avis Lucille Klein of Hartford, WI, and they were pretty much inseparable until her death in 2006. Together, and with much love, they raised three children,
Mike, Charlie, and Liz. Frank and Avis settled their family in the country outside Redmond in 1959 and lived in various parts of western Washington ever after. Frank was a mechanic, carpenter, plumber, welder, electrician, gardener, hunter, fisherman, fine woodworker, and a cribbage and pinochle player to be ware of. Loved by all, respected and cherished, he is survived by Charlie, Liz and her husband Dave McVey, grandchildren Zack, Sam, Maggie, and Ty, and brother Florian (aka Lollie) of Knox, IN.
