Greg was the eldest child of Kenneth and Margaret Thompson. He was born in Sebring, FL into an Air Force family who moved frequently during his father's career. Greg grew up in and around military bases in Kansas, California, Texas and Louisiana, as well as overseas in England but returned each summer to Wisconsin where both his paternal and maternal grandparents lived. He returned again to Wisconsin to attend college and earned a BA in History from Ripon College. Following graduation, Greg enlisted in the Navy and completed Officer Candidate School and was assigned to a Salvage & Rescue ship where he was a diver. Finding himself in Seattle, WA after being discharged from the Navy, Greg applied to and was accepted into the University of Washington MBA program and it was during this time in Seattle that Greg found Michele Oskam, the love of his life and eventually his wife of 42 years.
Greg had a great passion for flying and turned that into a successful business when he founded Airpac Airlines, Inc. Airpac celebrated 40 years in business in 2016, thanks to his dedication and hard work. Greg will be remembered as a master storyteller, pilot, employer, dad, grandpa and, above all else, a kind and compassionate man.
He is survived by his wife Michele, daughter Melanie Dobbs(Jerry), son Scott Thompson (Alison), sister Lynn Thompson and brother Doug Thompson, as well as three adoring grandchildren AnneLise, Beau and Catherine Dobbs.
