Marie was the daughter of special parents, Victor Eugene Drussell and Lorene Virginia Meyer Drussell. She was born February 18, 1944 in Kenosha, on a typical snowy cold Wisconsin winter morning. The family moved when she was five years to her father's home town Terre Haute, Indiana. Once again in 1951 the family moved to her father's favorite city, Seattle. He had visited an aunt in 1933, she had moved here in 1902. One important reason for the move, at the time, was the progressive reputation Washington state and Seattle had for education of the mentally retarded. Marie had been examined at Indiana State College in Terre Haute and James Whitcomb Riley Hospital in Indianapolis . Both institutions supported the move as an excellent decision. Marie attended Nellie Goodhue, Woodhull Hay and Fircrest schools until age 13 when mandatory schooling ended for her in 1957. She lived her parents and with them traveled the west coast and moved to Honolulu, Hawaii during the 1980s, returning to Seattle's Crown Hill area. After her father's passing September,1997, she moved to Shoreline on March 4, 1998. She then started another new chapter and became a cherished member of Home Sweet Home, owned by Mary Lou and Danny Jimenez. Her mother passed away March, 2011.
Marie had many interests. She loved beautiful cars, Boeing airplanes and busses. She loved music of all kinds including classic, rock, western, Hawaiian, opera and simple children's songs. Her mother taught her to read, write, type and to ride a bicycle. She loved pretty dresses and seeing well-dressed men. She loved good food. She loved her dogs; Herman (her Jet-Pet), Lui, Midnight and Koji - she tolerated Pebbles. She loved seeing little children. Marie enjoyed attending her parents Masonic events and attending St. Mark's Catholic Church for mass and doughnuts. From her youngest age she was excellent at offering us all a challenge with her very strong will, then surprising us with her sweetness, a sharp memory and her wry sense of humor with family names that became a part of our vocabulary.
Marie passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday evening, March 23, 2016.
Marie is survived by her sister Susan Drussell Peterson, niece Vicky Peterson, nephews Ed Peterson and Dan Peterson (Angie Chinn). Great-niece, Monique Bale and great-nephew, Lukas Peterson. Her aunt, Choon-ja Meyer and four cousins. Special sweet HSH ladies; Nieves Anis, Paz Mercader and Teresa Houghtaling. Also her HSH pals, David, Peter, Greg, Janet and roomie Robin as well as Jimenez family members.
