Helga Lydia Shapiro

February 8, 1932December 24, 2018

Helga Shapiro died December 24th. She was the beloved wife of Harold Shapiro, the mother of Sylvia and Micah Shapiro, and the grandmother of Jasmine Sanders and Scarlett Shapiro.

Helga was born in Berlin, Germany, February 8, 1932. She came to America in 1960, and married Harold in 1966.

She was very active and led the family in numerous activities. She was a member of the German club, the polish club and the Scandinavian club. She seldom missed a dance, fair or event, and left her family with many wonderful memories. She was a swimming instructor at the Ballard pool and on the ski patrol at Alpental.

She was always busy with her hands. She made book cases for her children which they still have. She wove, sewed, embroidered, made decorations which hung on the walls of every room in the house. She always tried new things when cooking.

She died peacefully. She will be greatly missed and remembered with love, respect and affection.

Here you’ll find an additional Foto not contained in Micah’s foto gallery. It shows Helga, Moche (Helga’s best friend after moving from Berlin to Uerdingen), and Mutti.

Dear Harold, dear Sylvia, dear Micah,

the wonderful words of Oliver make me to again express my feelings with you and the entire family. Evidently my feelings that I expressed spontaneously after receiving the dignitymemorial mail has not been transferred - probably due to my digital incompetence.
I am most sad to have lost my oldest sister, and eventually the entire family of my generation. Helga was - in the early days of the Wiedemann family in Berlin and Uerdingen - a resting pole for Mutti and her younger sisters. And she had been a great help during her time in Augsburg when Mutti turned 86.
We feel with you, Harold, Sylvia and Micah

Dear Sylvia, dear Micah, dear Harold,

We want to express our heartfelt sympathies to you!
I remember very well the time I could spend with Helga in Augsburg during her visits and especially my time with all of you in Summer 1986. Helga and all of you were a warmly welcoming host family for me and you allowed me to spend an unforgettable summer time with you!
From this time, I want to share my memory with you attaching a photo I still have in one of my albums.

Please feel our deep thoughts and hugs!

Oliver with Claudia, David and Tim (from Frankfurt)
