I met Jack at the same time I met Peggy in 1961 when I moved to Seattle from the Midwest.  In fact, the Churchill home became my home away from home for many years.  I remember Jack as a chatter box  a non stop talk about baseball would begin the moment I entered the house.  I knew nothing about baseball but Jack knew everything and talked my ear off.  I remember when he accidentally set himself on fire leaning against the stove when the burner was on low.  His shirt went up in flames and he went running towards the door. Peggy caught him and put him out on the floor.  For the rest of the summer he was in a tent in his bed room over his bed to keep the blankets off his back which was severely burned.  One day the whole family had to be away and I stayed with Jack.  We read and joked and of course talked about base ball.  I am so sorry he is gone and I know his family misses him.  He was so close to his two sisters growing up that I know he leaves a big hole in their hearts.  There are no words to make it better.  This I know.

My sister married Jack's brother Todd.  Both Jack and I loved sports, so we would always end up watching sports on TV at the family get togethers.  I was always extremely greatful to have an "adult" that liked watching the sports during the holidays as it was nice to have an ally.

Jack was soft spoken, but knowledgeable.

He will be missed, but not forgotten.

I first met Jack, around 1962, when we both attended Ravenna Elementary School, in Seattle. Even then his love for all sports, was unmatched. He was good at all sports, and was one of the top athletes, at Ravenna, in all the after school contests.

He was a survivor, all his life. In addition to battling cancer, three times, he also overcame a horrible fire that hospitalized him most of the Summer of 1963.

He wasn't afraid of hard work or getting his hands dirty. It was no surprise, to me, that he continued to work, up until his final term in the hospital.

The memories of all the sporting events that we either watched, or attended in person, are too many to list here. He loved the Boston Celtics, Chicago Bears, unlimited hydroplane racing, especially Bill Muncey, and most of all, the Washington State Cougars.

Whether it was racing our little, wooden hydros, trading baseball cards, or the neighborhood baseball, basketball and football games, Jack was always part of the action and a tough, fair competitor.

When his family moved to Bothell, in 1964, Jack and I would trade visits to each other's homes. He was one of the family, and fit right in, no matter what we were doing.

It's very hard to say goodbye to a long time friend, especially one as good and as close as Jack was. I am comforted in remembering all the happy times and laughs that we shared on this earth.

Rest in peace, Jack, we miss you and we will always love you.
