

Jane Powell Thomas was born in Seattle, the oldest child of Katherine Jaynes and George Van Tuyl Powell. She passed away on May 9, 2026 at age 90. Jane attended JJ McGilvra School and was a graduate of St. Nicholas School and Smith College. In 1984 she earned a Masters Degree at Antioch University in Seattle. Her professional accomplishments were as a Curriculum Advisor in the College of Business at the University of Washington, as a ski instructor with Ski Klasses Inc., as a Personal Property Appraiser, as a Psychotherapist in private practice, as Administrator for the Edmund F. Maxwell Foundation and finally as the author of Parenting Your Parents and Madison Park Remembered. Jane was a member of the Seattle Tennis Club, the Sunset Club, the Junior League of Seattle and the Genevieve Henry Orthopedic Guild. Most dear to Jane were those who survive her: son Jeff Thomas (Amy), daughter Katherine Thomas Bove (John) and son John Powell Thomas (Anne); grandchildren Kayla, Kyle, Cole, Heidi, Will, Sean and Erin; two great grandchildren; and sister Lisa Powell Burke.
