

Jean H Irvine passed away suddenly on January 7, 2012 at home at the Chateau at Bothell Landing Retirement Community. Jean was born February 14, 1921 in Boise, ID to Walter and Gladys Marshall. They later moved to Seattle when her Dad became a teacher and then principal for the Seattle School District. She was married to David J. Irvine for over 53 years who preceded her in death in 2004. She is survived by her sister, Marilyn Lemman and brother Donald Marshall, children Deborah Harrison (Harry), Jan Hover (Robert) and Gary Irvine (Christina), grandchildren Kevin, Andrew, Sarah, Angela, Scott and Alissa and 2 great grandsons Patrick and Thomas.
Jean attended school in Seattle and graduated from West Seattle High School. She then went on to college at Whitman for 2 years where she pledged the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority before marrying and starting her family. She returned to college in her 50's and graduated from the University of Washington with a BA in English in 1974.
Jean lived an active life and was involved in many charitable organizations including Children's Orthopedic Guild of Innis Arden, reading books to tapes for the blind, driving cancer patients to Dr appts to name a few. In the 1960's she was an active member of the Women's Fellowship at the Richmond Beach Congregational Church where she served as its president and chairman of many bazaars. She also worked alongside her husband/pharmacist at their Greenwood Drug store. She loved to play bridge, bingo, do the daily crossword and watch her birds at her feeders. Husky football was also a favorite of Jean's. She was an avid reader and would read approximately 3 books a week until her death.
Jean also enjoyed traveling and visited Europe with her family, had many trips to Hawaii, cruised to Alaska, the Caribbean and also a highlight was their cruise through the Panama Canal. Favorite travel destinations were to the Oregon Coast with their dog, Dinah and trips over to Lake Chelan.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, January 21 at 1:00PM at the Acacia Memorial Park Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either Seattle Children's Hospital or the Seattle Humane Society. The family would also like to thank the caring staff at the Chateau at Bothell Landing where Jean had lived the past 8+ years.
