Jean was born June 24, 1924 to Alfred and Mildred Lomen in Nome Alaska. She passed away gracefully on August 17, 2011 at her home in Seattle after a brief illness. Jean spent her early years in Nome where the family operated various small businesses including a photography studio and reindeer herds. She moved to Seattle in 1934 for her schooling and graduated from John Hay Elementary and Queen Anne High School, class of ‘42. She attended the University of Washington, until falling in love and marrying Le Conie (Bud) Stiles. Jean and Bud enjoyed 49 years of bliss together until he predeceased her in 1993. Jean loved to garden, enjoyed great hotels and restaurants and was a tireless worker for Milk Fund and Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She remained an active member of her bridge club her entire adult life. She actively supported Bud in his baking industry activities including two terms as President of the Independent Bakers Association. Family was at the core of Jean’s life. Her Bainbridge Island home was center to family parties and memories. She is survived by her two children, daughter,Connie Witkoski and son, Lee(Sue); her grandchildren Stephanie Goggin(Mike) and Scott Falk (Melissa) her great grandchildren; Skyler and Olive Goggin and Nathan Falk; her two sisters; Ann Sandstrom (Wayne)and Marian Gravenslund, and many nieces and nephews. Jean’s lively, inviting spirit and non stop hospitality will be sorely missed by her family and many friends, but the fond memories will last forever. Memorial service will be held Saturday, August 27 at 11 AM at Emmanuel Episcopal Church of Mercer Island. Please make memorials to the Northwest Division of The Salvation Army.
