Jeanne M Edwards

Jeanne Maxine Fairbrook was born on October 25, 1919 in Olympia, Washington. She graduated from the University of Washington in 1942, with a degree in Home Economics, specializing in Fashion Design. Fashion, textiles and beautiful needlework were some of her many passions. Jeanne returned to the University of Washington in the sixties and earned her teaching degree, teaching Home Economics for the Seattle School District.

Jeanne was married to Robert O. Edwards for 49 years, until his unexpected death at the age of 79. Jeanne met Bob at the beginning of WWII and she traveled alone, across country by train, to marry Navy Lieutenant Edwards at the Harvard University Chapel before he deployed.

She was a devoted mother of 3, proud of her children and their families. Jeanne is survived by her daughter, Susan (and husband John), her sons Stephen (and wife Melody), Craig (and wife Kay), her 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Jeanne was truly a renaissance woman with many interests. Her independent nature and pursuit of these interests have been an inspiration to many over the years. In addition to fashion and needle arts, she was a passionate gardener, maintaining a beautiful English-style garden at her home on Queen Anne Hill. She was an accomplished watercolor artist and studied Japanese watercolor for many years. Jeanne traveled extensively, all over the world, living in Singapore for two years along the way. She possessed a deep interest in people from around the world and interest in their way-of-life. Her one regret was not being able to visit Iran and Iraq before the current unrest. She was a skier and golfer well into her eighties. She also participated in several bridge and book clubs.

Jeanne was a long-time member of the University Presbyterian Church. Graveside service will be held Friday, September 4, at 1:00pm at Acacia Funeral Home. Family and friends welcome.
