Jeanne Read passed from this world leaving it far brighter than she found it. A woman who truly loved everyone and was loved by all, Jeanne’s life was defined by warmth, generosity, resilience, and a deep-rooted faith.
A farm girl at heart, Jeanne carried with her the strength and grit of country living. She was tough when she needed to be, sweet yet firm in her convictions, and always grounded in her faith. Her positive attitude and steady spirit made her a source of comfort and wisdom to family, friends, and neighbors alike. She had a way of understanding people — of meeting them where they were — and offering encouragement with a gentle smile and a perfectly timed bit of humor. Her sense of humor was unforgettable: down to earth, quick, and always good-hearted.
Family was the center of Jeanne’s world. She adored her children and took immense pride in her grandchildren and great grandchildren whose lives were filled with her love, laughter, and steady guidance. Her home was a gathering place — especially at Christmastime, her favorite season. The holidays sparkled a little brighter because of Jeanne.
Creative and artsy, Jeanne poured her heart into crafts and handmade works, taking great pride not in keeping them, but in giving them away. She made small items to sell at craft events and donated the proceeds to charities. She would give away the crafts to the kids as well as family and friends, ensuring her talents brought comfort and joy to all. Giving wasn’t something she did occasionally — it was simply who she was.
Jeanne’s kitchen was another expression of her love. Baking and canning weren’t just hobbies; they were acts of devotion. Jars lined with homemade preserves and plates filled with fresh treats were often shared with neighbors and friends. Her neighborly spirit meant no one ever felt like a stranger for long.
She found simple joys in life: a good book, all types of music, time spent with her beloved dogs (who were lucky to have known her happy, loving home), the Seattle Sounders soccer team, and her occasional trips to the casino, which she enjoyed with playful enthusiasm. Wherever she went, she brought lightness and laughter.
Jeanne lived with integrity. She was grounded, understanding, and always striving to do what was right. She believed in showing up for people — with kindness, strength, and love.
Though her absence leaves a space that cannot be filled, her legacy lives on in the family she cherished, the community she supported, the dogs she loved, and the countless lives she touched through her generosity and unwavering goodness.
Jeanne Read will be remembered for her strong hands, open heart, steady faith, and the beautiful, welcoming home she created for so many — both two-legged and four.
She was deeply loved and she will be deeply missed.
A burial service will be held in July on Whidbey Island where she will be interned with her husband Orville Read.
