Beloved wife, mother and Grandmother Johanna Mae (Williams) Cabuag, Gaah-Naw Dalx, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2016 surrounded by family. Her loving husband Jake Cabuag, their four children, Daphyne (Albee), Jay, Barney, and Michael, 11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and loved ones were by her side through her final moments.
Johanna was born June 28, 1937 in Wrangell, Alaska to Joseph C. Williams, Sr. (Neix̲.ádi) and Elizabeth (White) Williams (Naanya.aayí), raised in Saxman, Alaska. She is survived by siblings Bill, Jackie (Clark), and Joe Jr., Daniel, Jeffery and Linda.
In 1957, Jake and Johanna met at a dance in Ketchikan, fell in love and married less than a year later, they recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.
Johanna valued family above all, second only to family were her efforts to keep her Tlingit and her husband’s Hawaiian ancestry and heritage a central part of her families lives. Johanna loved singing and dancing, with the Seattle Cape Fox Dancers, Hula dancing and the Jitter Bug with her younger brothers.
Anyone whose life she touched will surely cherish the memory of Johanna's contagious laughter and joyous spirit.
