Jovita Agam peacefully passed away at age 84 on December 20, 2024 in Mukilteo, WA. Born on February 15, 1940, in Meulaboh, Indonesia, Jovita led a life rich in love, kindness, and faith. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who was well known for her compassion, bright smile, and amazing culinary talent.
Jovita was the second oldest daughter among a family of five girls and two brothers. After marrying Auw Yong Huat, moving to Jakarta, Indonesia and giving birth to two daughters, Silvia and Linda, she was widowed at the age of 26.
Jovita acquired and ran a business, Toko Gembira, a neighborhood convenience store where she built a thriving customer base, greeting everyone with a winsome smile. It was through this humble enterprise that she was able to send her daughters to the US for a better life and later joined them in Seattle.
Jovita quickly became known in the local Indonesian community for her delicious cooking that reminded many international students of home. Some of her specialties were angku kue, a red glutinous rice cake with mung bean filling, lemper, glutinous rice snack filled with shredded chicken stewed in coconut milk and wrapped in banana leaf and curry puff, a savory, flaky meat pie. Everything Jovita made was a labor of love and it was one of her greatest delights to see people enjoy her cooking.
Jovita is survived by her two beloved daughters and sons-in-law, Silvia & Kim-Fu Lim and Linda & Eddy Liem; her beloved goddaughter and her husband, Yuan & Ones Marsali; her four cherished grandchildren and their spouses, Christopher & Kathleen Lim, Tiffany & Daniel Borbón, Natasha Lim, and Nicole Liem & Choo Boon Kiat; her two delightful great grandchildren, Athanasius Lim and Claudya Choo and her two loving sisters, Hartini Ong and Lina Tjandra. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
