

Joan Louise Bigelow passed away on May 4th, 2012 surrounded by her family in Seattle Washington. She was born in Victoria, British Columbia on December 23rd, 1932 to Scotty and Marjorie Naysmith. She graduated from the Royal Jubilee Hospital School of Nursing in Victoria. After graduation, she moved to Portland and began a career in nursing. She loved her work and was respected for her leadership and compassion as an outstanding head nurse at Multnomah Hospital. She was happily married to Dr. John Bigelow for 51 years. Louise loved family, friends and family trips to Maui. She also enjoyed traveling to Europe, Africa, New Zealand, and Australia. Louise loved helping people and gave herself to so many throughout her life. She will be remembered for her generosity, thoughtfulness, humor and as an exceptional cook (many of us were the beneficiaries of her talents). In addition to Portland and Seattle she lived in Salem, Oregon and Lake Cowichan, British Columbia. Louise is survived by her husband John Bigelow and three sons, John and wife Peggy, Brad and partner Phil, Chris and wife Kristin. Grandchildren Jack, Tom, Joe, Kate, and Griffin. She is also survived by her sister Marilyn Cann and family and brother Dr. David Naysmith and family. A private memorial is being held.
