Marian A. Lewis ( Burford ) was born July 27 1924, passed away peacefully in her sleep after a long battle with dementia on Apr 10 2012. As a child, growing up in Woodinville, Mom attended the Bothell school district, starting at the Hollywood School, and graduating from Bothell High in 1942. About this time the family sold the Woodinville farm, moving to the Roosevelt area in north Seattle, then on to Etruria St on Queen Anne hill in Seattle. During and after the war, she worked for Beneficial Finance Co. in downtown Seattle. In 1952, she married James D. Lewis, and settled down to raise a family, moving to Skyway where she & Dad bought a house in 1952. Into the 1960’s, Mom & Dad would pack us up for camping road trips all over Washington & Oregon. After Dad’s untimely death in 1965, Mom remained devoted to raising us kids, and eventually took a part time job with the Renton School district. She started out as the “play ground lady” at Lakeridge Elementary School, making hundred of new friends each year, and helping out in the office when recess was not in session. During one of these afternoon playground sessions, Mom was accidentally hit & tackled by an older 4th or 5th grader, and sustained a hip injury that followed her the rest of her life. Eventually she moved on and used her previous business office experience to land a job in the Renton School district business office where after almost 2 decades of service, at the age of 67, she retired in 1992. During this time she attended Lakeridge Lutheran Church, and was an active Campfire & Boy Scout Mom, and looked forward to connecting with old friends while attending the annual Sammamish Valley Pioneers picnics in Bothell. Mom never re-married, and learned how to juggle the chores of being a single parent & balance work & family life long before it became the “norm” of today.
Retirement allowed more time to pursue her personal interests. She was an avid reader, devoted mother & grandmother, enjoyed watching Dragnet, Adam 12 & MASH, as much as her cats, going for walks along the Cedar River, cake decorating, occasional visits to Ocean Shores, and finally made good on her long time threat to start oil painting again. In the later years, the dementia took its toll, and slowed Mom to a crawl. Her Hip becoming more & more painful, stopped the walks she enjoyed so much, and eventually forced her into assisted living. She will be greatly missed by her friends at Angela’s Adult Family Home.
Marian was preceded in death by parents Marvin & Cora Burford, brothers Vern & Frank & Cousin Joe Keller. She is greatly missed and survived by 1 Daughter Cathie, 4 sons: James, Jeffery, Ken & Allan, one grand daughter Michelle, numerous nephews, 1 niece, & 1 remaining cousin: Dorothy O’Malley, as well as many other friends & neighbors.

We’re sad you’re gone Mom, but happy you are no longer in pain.
The family chain is broken now, and nothing seems the same,
but as God takes us one by one, that chain will link again.
