Martha had a full and eventful life. As a child during WWII, she was a window watcher and went through neighborhoods looking for light peeking from homes during blackout hours. In 1949 Martha met George, they were married the following summer. A talented artist, Martha was one of the first people to paint Christmas windows in Seattle; she continued this tradition for years until moving to Snohomish County.
Martha was a member of Job’s Daughters, Daughters of the Nile and the Social Order of the Beauceant, a Blue Bird and Campfire Leader. After raising her young children, Martha pursued a degree in Early Childhood Education and opened Sherry’s Young World, the first daycare center in Marysville, Washington. During this time, she was active in the PTA, took anthropology classes and carved her family totem under the tutelage of Tlingit master carver, Abner Johnson. Following sixteen successful years of operation of Sherry’s Young World, Martha retired. Upon retirement, she spent time caring for her grandchildren, and pursuing her passions of art, flower arrangement, sewing, cake decorating, classical music, opera and genealogy.
Martha and George were married for fifty-seven happy and joyful years. Together they lovingly raised seven children and created many wonderful memories with family and friends. Martha was a caring creative soul, fierce friend and ally, and a staunch supporter of her family. She touched so many lives and will be dearly missed.
