He was born in York, Nebraska in 1942 to Paul LaVern Smith and Jeanne Evelyn Laschanzky. Michael worked for Washington State Department of Transportation (retired 1996) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (retired 2012). His accomplishments as a civil engineer included many roadways and bridge projects around the United States. At his time with FEMA, Michael worked on many disaster relief efforts including super typhoons and earthquakes.
Michael was an avid reader of history, mystery, and science-fiction. Michael enjoyed traveling with his wife Pacifica every year and sometimes with family.
Michael was preceded in death by parents Paul LaVern Smith and Jeanne Evelyn, and is survived by Pacifica (Pat) Kuizon Smith (wife), Frosti Smith (daughter), Michael Shawn Smith (son), Paula Jeanne Smith Pickard (sister), Tom Smith (brother), Sam Smith (brother), and grandchildren.
A visitation for Michael will be held Tuesday, September 16, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Acacia Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 14951 Bothell Way NE, Seattle, WA 98155.
A prayer service will occur Wednesday, September 17, 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Luke Catholic Church, 322 N 175th St, Shoreline, WA 98133. A funeral mass will occur from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. A graveside service will occur Wednesday, September 17, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Holyrood Cemetery, 205 NE 205th St, Shoreline, WA 98155.
