Naomi Ruth Sherland, age 86, of Tacoma, Washington passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2020. Naomi was born November 15, 1933.
I Craig have fond memories of my mom Naomi: from when I was a little kid - she would dress me and pray over me before I went out to play. And as a kid she gave me great birthday parties which included my neighborhood friends. During my childhood I remember she would buy me and my sister Valerie (we grew up together) costumes for Halloween; provided wonderful family Thanksgivings. Mom and dad provided us wonderful Christmases (so much fun and joy - almost magical, will never forget those times).
Up until her stroke she was always there, available to talk or pray or just spend time with me.
In her youth Mom (Naomi) attended Northwest Bible College (now Northwest University). She learned the piano (self taught) and played it (my dad bought mom a piano during their marriage) as long as I can remember up until her hip fracture in 2013
She married my dad Eldon on St. Patrick's Day 1956 in Yakima WA. My sister Valarie was born in Yakima on December 12th 1956 and I Craig was born in Richland WA on February 19th 1960. Mom and dad divorced in 1969 or '70 (not certain which year it was).
In 1972 mom had her 3rd child, our sister Kim. Kim was born in Yakima.
Naomi had two brothers, Donald and Keith and three sisters, Dorothy, Mary and Karen.
Mom's dad Thomas Overland emigrated from Norway at the age of fourteen. He passed way in 1981.
Mom was seven years old when her mom Tressie died at a young age of approx. 41 years old.
In the 1980s and 1990s mom (Naomi) traveled on several vacation/Christian mission trips to Barbados, Mexico (several locations) and Hawaii.
I'm so sad Mom isn't here anymore - Mom I miss you and hope to see you in Heaven someday - Love your son Craig.
Thoughts/memories from mom's sister Karen:
Memories of my sister -
Naomi was a lady that first and foremost loved God and was always ready to minister to others. She loved her children and always prayed God’s best for them.
Thoughts/memories from mom's friend Wendy:
Naomi was a very kind and loving person, she was a woman of faith and compassion. She was faithful and had a prayer life that included her family and loved ones. Her heart was full, the joy of the Lord was her strength. Jesus was her Lord and King.
