OBITUARY

Raiana Marie GOLDEN

June 18, 1961November 21, 2019

Born June 18, 1961. At age 58, our dear sister Raiana passed suddenly on Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Highline Hospital. She was proceeded in death by her identical twin sister Deborah and our parents Sharon & Henry.

Raiana was the second of eight and raised in West Seattle. She attended Our Lady of Guadalupe and graduated from Kennedy High School in 1979. She began her early business career in Maritime Shipping Logistics. Always in the pursuit of knowledge, she completed her higher education at Shoreline College, graduating with honors and moved to Seattle University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. Over time, Raiana attained a certification as an Esthetician and opened her own business. Never one to remain stagnant, she also filled her spare time as a brightwork finisher on boats. Rai completed her Project Management Professional certification and became a successful IT and Business Project Manager returning to the Maritime industry. In early November, Raiana accepted a new job and her expertise was to be shared at MassPort in Boston, which was to begin in December.

Her business career gave her opportunities for extensive world travel, which she gained a personal affinity for. Raiana adored everything about Scotland and the discovery of our family’s ancestral roots.

Throughout her life Raiana was fiercely private and valued her solitude, friends, family, and her music. If you were one of her friends, you were most definitely as dear to her as she was loyal to you. By every account, friendships were gold to Rai.

She truly enjoyed nature and a strong connection to Native American Spiritualism. She was a purposeful wanderer who immersed herself in the outdoors with her binoculars as an avid marina walker, beachcomber, and kayaker. Rai used these times for reflection and sharing via her tremendous writing / blogging talents.

Raiana is survived by her siblings Gregory, Charlie, Christofer, Rita, Anthony, and Daniel Her memorial is scheduled for December 15th at Noon to 3pm at Des Moines Beach Park – Dining Hall.

I worked with Rai at TOTE. We had many good conversations. She was a beautiful soul and one of my favorite folks there. I came away from every conversation with her with a new wisdom and happiness.

While I only knew Raiana for less than a year, she quickly became one of my very good friends. We shared a connection that I can't explain. She was so caring, friendly and smart. Always a good listener and very funny! We would sit on my deck for hours in the morning and talk and she would complain about my coffee because it was decaf. I miss that. If I saw a whale I would call her and she would run down and do a happy dance, and then for the next week every time she saw a log she would yell Whale!!. How can I not think of her every day! My heart is broken. I knew she was moving away to Boston but I knew that I would go there to see her. But now.. It's just so sad.. I miss you Raiana!

Rai, you have been such a light in my life, a guide, a sister, a mentor and dear friend. Most memorable, slumber parties and old classic movies.
