She attended school in Edmonds and Sultan before moving in her senior year to Ocean Shores where she graduated from Hoquiam High School in 1973. Sheryl lived for many years at the beach, staying close to her family where they would form many traditions that carry on during annual trips to Ocean Shores to this day.
Sheryl moved to the Everett area where she met Tom Evans and married in 1981. Together they welcomed a daughter in 1983, Heather Rose, and a son in 1985, David Eugene. She loved being a mom and relished all the joys and hardships of parenting with grace and love.
Her life-long career with Bank of America in Sultan began during her 20’s. Sheryl worked at many branches and retired after about 33 years in 2010 as a Banking Center Manager. While working there, she touched many lives and became great friends with co-workers and customers alike. She met one client, Walter T. Wardzinski, who later became the love of her life, as he opened an account at BofA in 2005, and whom she married in 2007!
Together Sheryl and Walt built a beautiful life of love and travel, meals with friends and family, and endless dog tail wags. Along with Walt’s son Todd, they became grandparents together and welcomed their four grandchildren Lillian, Braxton, Liam and Ryker. One of Sheryl’s greatest joys was spoiling her grandchildren!
Sheryl had a gift of making others feel so loved! Her smile and caring nature made others want to be around her. She was always considerate and kind to everyone and their needs. She possessed a quiet strength and ability to persevere through the difficulties and physical pain in her life with dignity and positivity that was truly remarkable. Christmas was truly a joyous time for Sheryl as she relished in the decorating and gifting festivities, baking, and exchanging Christmas stockings with her brothers and sisters and children.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Shirley (Witham) Clay, and nephew, Kale Clay. She is survived by her loving husband, Walter T. Wardzinski; her children, Heather Rose (Sean) Rydquist, and David Eugene Evans (both of the Seattle area), as well as William Todd (Renee) Wardzinski (of Virginia); her beloved grandchildren, Braxton & Ryker Rydquist as well as Liam & Lilly Wardzinski, her siblings, Mark Richard (Nancy) Clay, Waunita (Scott) Sykes, Douglas Eugene (Michelle) Clay and Steven Lee (Karol) Clay; and by innumerable nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.
A funeral service is planned for Sheryl on Friday, August 1st, 2025 beginning at 1:00pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints chapel located at 17332 Tester Road in Monroe, WA 98272. Light refreshments and dessert will be provided after the service.
Sheryl loved all flowers, plants, and animals. In lieu of too many floral arrangements with short lives, the family asks that you please consider donating to an organization such as PAWS (https://paws.org/donate/) which works to care for and extend the lives of the furry friends we share our existence with.
