Hi Surnish,

Though you were not in much touch with me but we studied in St. Xavier's, Loyola Hall for like 12 years. Many standards we were in the same class.
Today while remembering my old days and old pals I was searching Google & social media and came across the sad news about your demise. Sorry that you left so early for the heavenly abode. 
Hope you had lived a long life but Destiny choose otherwise and Death took your life so early. Feel very sorry for that.
May your soul rest in Eternal peace. My condolences.

Surnish, my brother. We met more than 20 years ago in NYC and spent so much time together, especially cooking and eating. You shared recipes from your mom and family. We bonded because we spoke Gujarati together, but that was not the real reason. We bonded because you spread love and happiness. Your quick wit and humor always got a laugh out of me. Your smile and presence always filled me with joy. When we reconnected about 2 years ago, we picked up right where we left off. You told me all about Langdon and I know how much you loved him, how proud you were of everything he did. I am sorry I did not know you were in pain. I would have held your hand, bhai, and been a shoulder for you. May God grant you eternal peace, bhai. 

Surnish you will be missed so deeply. My memory of you will always be the person who listened will with smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye.

Surnish, my brother, i love you. You left us too early, all your school brothers were hoping to have a reunion soon enough and it would have been so nice to hug you mere dost.

Our extended conversations during the lock down and plans for the future make me feel angry at you for not giving us a chance to make those come true...but you choose what you felt necessary for you. Hang on for sometime in heaven my friend, cause we need to come back together to relive our school days.

Surnish, my  brother, I am so so sad and sorry you are not with us any more. Like others have mentioned, you did have the ability to light up a room, make people laugh and feel good about themselves. I am really sorry though that we did not see through nor help in your sadness.
I do hope you have found solace and peace. My sincere condolences to the entire family and friends of Nino but specially to Langdon - every time I talked to him, he would talk about you. Whatever the topic, whatever the reason his beaming pride regarding you would shine through. Your dad was a truly remarkable person and will be sorely missed.

He was a brother to me. He would swoop down to lift me up when I was feeling low or in trouble or just wanted someone to listen to. 

He did that again and again and again.

Surnish and I were studying together in St Xavier's High School Loyola Hall, Ahmedabad. Though we were classmates for 2 or 3 years only, and over the years we were not in regular touch; but he was the type of person who had a personality that positively affects everyone he meets and interacts. Somehow the atmosphere was always happy and jovial whenever he was around. I remember he was the star, the darling of all the teachers and especially Father Morondo, our favorite teacher.
In the Bhagwad Geeta, Lord Krishn has said:
Death is certain for one who has been born, and rebirth is inevitable for one who has died. Therefore, you should not lament over the inevitable.
However I regret we were not in regular touch, and I (and our other xaviers classmates, if I may speak on their behalf) was not aware of the pain in your heart.

Surnish was a soul brother and there are many happy memories together. We used always say to each other ... 'BROTHER FROM ANOTHER MOTHER!'

Connection was deep and probably goes into past life.

No words to describe Surnish’s loss. We created such fun memories in Pune and Bombay. You were always ready to hang out, share some laughs, lend a helping hand or just provide the solid support of your friendship. Then we were honored to attend your wedding- met your family….
We drifted apart during recent years  but never doubted that all it would take was a phone call to reconnect. I wish I could pick up the phone and talk to you now, hear your laugh and ask how are you! 
You were one of the best. Wish you were here. But if not here, then being your usual charming self there.

Surnish has been a friend of mine for over 10 years.   I will never forget his unbounded energy and enthusiasm for creating the next thing.   He always looked ahead, and always tried to lift those around him to join him in his journey.    One thing that sticks out for me is how many times he would think about a gig that would keep him away from of his son - and then it turn it down as he always had his priorities well aligned.  

He was a treasure of a friend.  No words can express how much I will miss him.   Go in peace my friend.   Love ya, man.   

My beautiful angels, u know me by a different name, but I can’t explain how u 2 have moved me, taught me how beautiful love can be! I don’t know many who love their children like surnish did. They really were 2 peas in a pod. One would jumpstart the other with laughter and humor and it would never stop.
I’ve met surnish a few times and those moments truly were one of the best, and blessed I am to have seen little precious Langdon grow and carry those traits through another generation, gives me hope for humanity!
Langdon is pretty much the cutes kid I’ve ever known,. He’s lucky to inherit that haha. His super sweet touch is like touching Jesus. Just so pure and if ur ever in a bad mood. It cures everyone. I apriciate the hugs and cuddles we shared whenever I got to finally see him at parties. We’d play and never stop.
I respect everything that surnish has taught him. Very big values.  Could see how Langdon could be totally himself with his dad and share with him everything! He was very lucky, I know sadly many aren’t as lucky to have that.
I pray for Langdon to always have strength to keep going through this terrible loss, and for him to know we will be reunited with our loved ones again for eternity! There will never be any more pain after Jesus comes for us. We can play hug, kiss without complications and be 100 percent innocent and free just doing God’s will. Living life and living it for us and him. I miss eating cake and getting pictures with these two, checking out the interesting drinks that surnish brought and laughing cause everyone thought I was gonna just take one when they were his 😂(scareddogbygarfield)
Surnish was truly blessed and his best gift was his sweet healing son, Langdon! Langdon u r cherished more than u know and if u ever second guess it, don’t. I did too and always will. I’ll always be there for u even if it’s not in person. Surnish I will support Langdon the best I can, he’ll only have the best. I’ll always love u more than u know 😘 🤗 

I’ll never forget my first memory of Surnish. My father went to pick him up from the airport in the summer of 2001 and he arrived at our home with a brilliant smile. He entered a home with no fewer than 10 other relatives and immediately, after a long journey, wanted to learn everyone’s names and even more so who they were as people. Since that first memory, every subsequent memory is similar - of Surnish entering my parents house with an embrace, a warm smile, and a way of just being present and making everyone who was in his company know that he cares sincerely and deeply for them. 13 years after our first meeting, Surnish was my calm cousin brother in a frenetic “shaadi ka ghar.” He saw me looking for a ride to the venue to start getting ready and quietly said “come on, let’s go” and we drove off from the chaos, my older brother giving me my final advice and words of wisdom before the big day. I will miss his generosity of spirit, brilliant ability to make everyone not just feel but know they are so loved, and his wicked sense of humor. Love you Surnish. May Langdon, Pavanish, Mamaji, Mamiji, Jarucia and all you touched take solace in your giving and selfless spirit that we will never forget and will live far beyond you.

I will always be grateful that I had Surnish as a big brother and that I had the benefit of his laughter, advice, and company at a time when I needed all those things. I am Shocked & saddened!

Fondly remember the good times we spent in our childhood! The fun trips and picnics and specially the Lori functions at your home in Ahmedabad every year. I remember the day you decided to move to the US and how excited you were & we celebrated together…

You were always an inspiration and a part of me looked up to you and made me proud… I do and will always cherish the memories…! 

Langdon, Pavnish, Aunty & Uncle, deeply sorry for your / our loss and time is the best healer! We pray to Waheguruji to give us the strength to cope with this loss!

You will be missed tremendously. We are so thankful we got to spend so much time with you, Langdon and your mother. Part of our Washington family, it was always nice to catch up and share our holidays. Everytime we got together, it was as though time had not passed at all, and we'd just laugh and laugh. You are a kind soul, a wonderful friend and a loving father. May you be at peace my friend. 

What did we lose when we lost Surnish?  

We lost an imagined future where he would be alive.  We lost him calling me ‘sister’, we lost future outings on his boat, we lost weekends with Surnish and Langdon. Most importantly we lost our brother who gave us his unconditional love and generosity.

If Surnish’s life yet lived was something we never truly had, what did we have?

What we have is the life he lived. 

We have every memory of him. Him picking me (Tripti) up from the airport when I landed in Seattle and us re-connecting in a heartbeat.  Our first meeting with Langdon, one of so many.  Listening to songs we both loved from Sting to Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan over and over.  Him MC’ing our wedding. 

We have every conversation. From reminiscing about India to love, work and Langdon.  Innumerable conversations where his eyes would light up talking about Langdon, who he loved and was proud of above all. Every time he called me his sister and Suny his bro.  The day he asked me to be Langdon’s godmother. 

We have every adventure we had and every kindness we received. From buying all our wedding drinks from Costco to him buying us the best shakkar padas in all of Seattle.

What we have is a profound wealth of experiences and love and the joy of knowing Langdon that we are utterly grateful for. These will live in and through us. These, we cannot lose. 

Rest in peace, Surnish.  We will both miss you, but we will also celebrate your life fondly remembering our journeys together. We will not remember 16th of July 2021 as the day we lost our brother but as the day he truly became a part of our lives.

I’m proud to have known Surnish and called him my friend. Over the past 10 years I came to know him as a brilliant, hardworking, honest, and principled person who was madly in love with his son. Surnish was always there for you when you needed help and never backed down from a challenge. He has so many friends who are heartbroken over the loss of such a wonderful guy. Rest In Peace Surnish! 

Surnish, I barely knew you. I met you twice - once at the traditional Sikh wedding, and once at the equally traditional Christian wedding. Thanks to you, I got to wear a pink turban - that memory sticks with me. I met your family from India and those living in the U.S. and shared a post-wedding meal with them. Your son is a bright light and I'm sure will carry your memory proudly into the future.  I am saddened to hear about your passing and wish you well in whatever/wherever your spirit does/goes next.


While sharing pictures of family moments I realized most photos I have of you are of family, because that's something that truly made Surnish flourish and made him bright! This is a throw back to what I'll say is around 15 years ago. Surnish made a joke that we were his pets that he just picked up from the pet store. My sister Donna was Lou Lou and I was FeFe. This is and always will be the memories I shared with Surnish, as his sister. Not by blood but by love and laughter. He once brought me a whole box of burfi from India to share with everyone but I was young and had this sweet tooth he underestimated. I ate the whole box lol ever since then he always joked about that time I ate an entire box of silver covered burfi meant for about 10 people haha 

holidays won't really be the same, but we will always have some piece of you with us as we spend time with you through my nephew, Langdon. For you to give me the most amazing and smart and generous nephew I could ask for, is the greatest gift I could of ever received and for that I thank you for continuing yourself through him ❤ to the memories of being a teenage girl to you holding my children to hugging and laughing with you, to my nephew and my sister, thank you for being part of my memories. We love you Surnish!

I have had the pleasure of not only working with Surnish but having him as my dear Friend. Any room that Surnish walked into would turn into an instant party. I will miss his sarcasm and amazing hearty laugh. @Langdon, your Dad would light up whenever he talked about you. He was so proud of everything you have accomplished and had so much love in his voice whenever he shared a story about you. I attached a picture from my son’s birthday party when you were just a baby. Your Dad was trying to position you for the perfect shot. 

I wish Langdon, Jaurica, Satinder and your entire family peace, love and light.

Let me first say how truly sorry I am for your tragic loss.  

I want to share some memories of your dad, who worked as our vice president of sales not too long ago.  You may remember the days he brought you into our office in downtown Seattle, plying you with snacks as you patiently waited for him to complete his work.  You were so polite.  Every time I would ask you questions about school, life, etc. your dad visibly beamed with pride.  You were clearly the light of his life.  

I have fond memories of sharing many steak dinners with your dad- he was always keen to take our customers to the best steak house wherever we happened to be traveling.  We shared a love for good food and espresso.   

Another thing about your dad- he was always the best-dressed person in the room, full stop.  While he tolerated my t-shirts and hoodies, he clearly knew he was winning all the fashion points at our office.  Surnish was a handsome man, and you are fortunate to have inherited his good looks.  I haven’t met your mother, but judging by your good fortune I suspect she is equally as beautiful.

Langdon, your dad was smart.  I can’t tell you how many contracts I put on his desk, looking for his feedback and guidance on what we should do.  I could always count on him to be thoughtful and considerate.  It’s rare to find someone willing to dig into the details of a dense contract, but also have a natural grace with people.  Surnish had an inherent charisma that made people feel seen and valued.  He would instinctively put down his work and give you his undivided attention when asking him a question.

Langdon, you are being shaped by tragedy. I wish I could hand you a magic wand.  I wish I could hand you a time machine.  My hope for you is you find solace knowing that your dad loved you deeply, and he was a good person.  

He will be missed.

Surnish was one of the reasons I joined Altoura in 2020 -  His kindness, generosity of spirit and smarts drew me to join the company. I was very sad to see him leave a few months later. Now, I’m even sadder for his passing.  He will be missed. 

He and I would often talk about how important family is to us - whether it be taking care of our elderly mothers or seeding hope and joy with the next generation. I cannot imagine the scale of your loss.  My heartfelt condolences to the Nirula  family.

As much as he could love any other, Surnish loved Langdon.

Surnish is fire.

In my mind, he burns brighter than most anyone I know.

Some of the memories are fireballs, too intense approach.
Some of the memories are crackling campfires, warm and welcoming to gather ‘round.
Some of the memories are dark, smoldering embers, you can see the fire is nearly out

Surnish’s fire is fueled by many people and events.
Nothing makes memories of Surnish shine brighter than Langdon.
Langdon is the one fuel that adds so much flame to Surnish’s fire.
Surnish’s living self, in my memories, never is stronger or more brilliant than when his son is present.

But no matter the quality of fuel or strength of flame, a fire doesn’t burn when drenched by a downpour. 

Surnish is fire.

Surnish was a complex man, sometimes a downright mystery.

He was brilliant and ambitious; someone who took his wins and losses equally and deeply personal.

Surnish had a capacity for genuine care for others, too often exceeding genuine care for himself. 

I am not in any way saddened by the memories cemented by time. Like most lives, many of the memories are happy and easy to recall.

My wish for Surnish—as it has always been—is lasting peace and complete, spiritual freedom from his personL struggles. Freedom to just be.

I’ll miss seeing people exchange embraces with Surnish. I’ll miss the sounds of his laughter. I’ll miss the smile that equally  told and hid so much about him.

I feel confident that his spirit, his energy, will always stay close, though. 

There’s still a lot of life for him to watch over, especially as Langdon grows.
