

Bruce John Scherban, 75, of Nutley, a proud American whose life reflected honor, service, and curiosity, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2025 leaving behind a legacy of dedication and adventure. Born and raised in Ohio to parents Carmelita and Louis J. Scherban developed early the values of hard work and integrity that would guide him throughout his life.
Answering the call to service, Bruce joined the United States Air Force and bravely served during the Vietnam War. His commitment to his country later continued through a distinguished career as an FBI agent, where he worked tirelessly to protect and uphold the principles he cherished.
Beyond his service, Bruce was an avid traveler who found joy in exploring new places and cultures. He loved exciting days on the water fishing with his friends, but he was happiest when spending time with his cherished wife Deitre.
Beloved husband of Deitre Scherban; loving stepfather of Evan Pope and his wife Daniela; adoring grandfather of Kristina Pope; dear brother of Gregg Scherban and his wife Denise, and Louis Scherban; cherished uncle of Morgan Driscol and her husband Frank, and Heather Mendez and her husband Mitchel; grand uncle of Henry and Josephine Driscol, and Lily, Luciana and Mila Mendez; brother-in-law to Lana and Michael Schlemm; uncle to Alexander Schlemm, Samantha Schlemm and her husband Joseph Montanye and their children Adelaide and James, Marc Schlemm and his wife Elizabeth and their children Olive and Rory, as well as Dawn and Conrad Brassel and their daughter Claire and wife Rachel; Jenny Lichtenberger and her son Blake. Bruce also leaves behind close friends and colleagues.
Bruce will be remembered not only for his accomplishments, but for his warmth, humility, and dedication to his friends and family. Those who knew him take comfort in the impact he made and the values he embodied throughout his remarkable life.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 16 from 4 to 8PM at Mack Memorial Home, 1245 Paterson Plank Road, Secaucus, NJ. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 17 at 11AM at Mack Memorial Home.
