Born in Hoboken, NJ to Justine and Rudolph Magnus.
Mom spent her entire nursing career with St. Mary’s Hospital, Hoboken, NJ, where she graduated with the class of 1959, something she celebrated every year with her classmates. Mom went on to become the “School Nurse” at Secaucus High School and later at Huber Street School, retiring in June of 2000. In addition to her professional nursing career she was also the “Drum Corps Nurse” for the Meadowlarks and the Royal Brigade Drum and Bugle Corps where she cared for her corps kids like they were her own.
Mom’s compassionate care provided much love for her family, her extended families, her community, and to total strangers because she was born with the caregiver gene. Mom encouraged us to be the best version of ourselves and showed us the true meaning of graciousness. She was known as Grandma D by her Pennsylvania family, having been a vital part of grandsons Stephen and JD’s many activities. Family, friends, and neighbors adored her “sassy jersey girl” style. There will never be a day when someone won’t say… I love that lady with my whole heart, because mom had a heart of gold. And while we are sad mom is no longer with us, our grief is lessened knowing mom is walking hand and hand with our dad in Heaven.
